Bass on a $1k budget

Anyone using a JL Audio 8" microsub enclosure? CP108LG-W3V3 or the powered version (same size).
Went to the local car audio shop and it fits perfect under the rear passenger seat (see pic).
I'm not looking for earth shattering bass but if I'm going to drop nearly a grand for the sub, amp, supporting equipment I would like some solid low end punch... which is nonexistent with my base 5" factory system.

I'm also considering the Alpine PSS-23WRA (Also around a grand). I like the bolt in, plug and play install and I've read it's an overall improvement with the amps, tweeters, sub but i heard the bass is lacking.

Open to recommendations...a bit flexible on the budget.

Check out the Kicker HS10, smaller and all in one. I have heard it installed, and if your looking to even out the sound it is perfect. I upgraded my premium sound with a DS18 Loaded sound bar and have on order the Kicker because of its size and it wont take away from the under seat storage.

Ended up going with the following and it sounds great connected to the factory base 5" head unit, factory speakers and:
* Alpine SBR-S8-4 Ported enclosure with 8" Type-R subwoofer (350W RMS).
* Polk Audio PA D5000.5 900W RMS, 5-Channel Class D Amplifier
* PAC AmpPRO AP4-CH41 R2 Aftermarket Amplifier Interface
