for the GAIA app to work through uconnect, do you have to have the 8.4? Also, how does it work if you do not have cell or GPS coverage in the area you are exploring?

You have to have CarPlay to display Gaia. I download maps for the areas that I'm planning to visit. You need a paid membership to do that. I upped $60 for a five year membership. Gaia sure does look good on the 8.4 screen.

I have the 7" uConnect and Gaia works fine.

You always have GPS service so if you're somewhere without cell service you have to download the map/layer/track you're using to continue to know where you are. Even if you don't have the map layer, the GPS will continue to track you
