So, I had my first major tow today with my Mojave. I hooked up my travel trailer and took it to the dealer about an hour away. I was surprised how well the Jeep towed it. I was on roads with 75 mph speed limits and easily kept my setup between 65-70. The roads are very wavy and it was very windy. The setup always felt stable and secure. My only real complaint I guess was the 5.7 mpg I got, lol, though I am not
surprised by that at all. Overall, I am quite impressed:)

Wow, that's a really tidy rig combination! Totally dig that micro Winnie, double axle is SO much better.

That Husky WDH sure looks familiar ? or my sunglasses are steering me wrong.

Manual tells you do go 50 mph for the first 500 miles of towing.

That would have gotten me a crazy large ticket. However, it’s not the first time I’ve towed, just the first time something that heavy. At any rate, even if it wasn’t, it would be too late to go back and change it now…?

So, I did another major tow, I had to take my commuter to the shop for some repairs. I was interested to see how we would tow here, as it weighs about the same, maybe a tad more, but no WDH and a totally different profile. It felt just as stable as before, and the jeep felt much more powerful and got better mileage. I got 13 this time. So, while it’s not a Cummins Ram, it certainly suits my purposes:)

Yes, it was! I think it was several factors…I had to drive faster than I wanted to, it was windy as all get out, and I didn’t shift manually.

From the Owner's Manual:
"Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km)
that a trailer is towed, do not drive over
50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts
at full throttle. This helps the engine and
other parts of the vehicle wear in at the
heavier loads."

I'm not anywhere near as technically astute as many others on the Forum, so in lay terms, the transmission' operation and performance is computerized, or "smart." When it senses a heavy load, it defaults to a different set of operating parameters. So the manual is advising a break-in period for this different set of transmission operation parameters.

I'll wait for the more technical and eloquent version!!

Pickles is right, the computer shifts parameters for a bunch of stuff when towing. This gives everything the opportunity the set in and wear in under heavier load. There are multiple opinions floating around the net about break in procedures on stuff, I generally reference the manual and follow it.
