Yeah I actually have them mounted to the Alu Cab racks on the top of the Alu Cab Canopy. I have another set of racks mounted on the back of the truck roof so the freedom panels can still come off. When I camp, I have a roof top tent that goes on the canopy. And then I put some Pelican boxes on the front racks that hold sleeping bags, pillows, lanterns and a heater. And then when you are camping, you unzip the front window on the tent and pull all of those items out of the boxes. If I am not camping, I pull the boxes and tent off to get better milage.
The rod vault is a Denver Rod Vault now owned by Thule.

I'm in Marin county nor cal.
I've been gently exploring a bed cap too. Was leaning to rsi but no immediate plans.
wanted to get soft top and would like to get a rod carrier.
Believe I could replicate your system as I've seen a video of rsi (I think) with soft top.
just back from 6 month in Idaho and had the fly rods in bed or back of truck, not ideal...

The RSI's have been hard to get. Maybe that has changed. Asheville Vehicle Outfitters has the Alu Cab in stock. I had mine installed by them and then we drove straight to Colorado and camped and fished. I have also fished northern California. I have drifted the Sacramento river and waded in Santa Venetia.

One of the first things I did when I brought my Willys home.
(1) 10’ stick 2” PVC
(2) Female adapters
(2) Clean-out plugs
(4) 2-hole straps

I cut a slot for the reel to hang down. Mounted to 2x6s in the bed. With the tailgate closed you can hardly see the reels.

I have changed things up a lot since this post. I now have a Softopper canopy with a kitchen/sleeping platform and a fridge on a slide, so this doesn’t work anymore.
I mounted the 2 rod holders to plywood and used 2 U-bolts with wing nuts to attach to the @Softopper frame.

I have lights on the frame too now, but no photo with both the lights and rod tubes.

Not my Jeep, but talked to the owner while at the flyshop. he has had no issues. mopar roof rails.

Has anyone mounted a larger rod case? More salt water rods. most of them are 1pc 7ft rods or less. Trying to figure out how to store rods overnight while in a hotel when offshore fishing. and like 10-12 rods, not 2-4. Love to see some solutions on that.

Ideally I'd like to mount further back so I could use a soft top
But would involve a bed rail which I don't want or more likely but more expensive a rsi cap.
lots of ways to spend money and key can't have everything but good to explore the options

Here's my set up. I fly fish and use standard tackle, so I went with the Thule ST. LOVE it. I used a 6" PVC pipe before and this keeps the rods much more stable. Dee Zee roof rack over the cab and Blackhorse Atlas in the back.
