Concerning towing a trailer, the manual states that my Overland JT has a frontal area of 40ft2, (page 215) which I'm assuming means 40 square feet. Going with the definition of the frontal area (page 211) it states it is the maximum height multiplied by the maximum width of the front of a trailer. If that's the case can ANY JT tow anything other than a small open trailer? I'm not understanding what this frontal area of a trailer really means. Can someone explain this? Is this wind resistance? Thanks in advance for enlightening me...

From my now ancient mechanical engineering degree your total drag is a function of frontal area, length, coefficient of drag, and some other minor things. From reading this board more people have problems towing things with large frontal areas than they do with max weight towing. Any by problems I mean lots of transmission hunting.

Thanks for this answer. This helps alot! I have decided not to tow with the JT after all. Not just the weight thing but transmission, etc.

Do NOT worry about the transmission thing. Shift manually!!! Look for some of my posts about this and all your fears will be allayed. The truck and transmission can handle it. Plus, it'll keep you more focused on drives :)
