Hey all. I’m assuming this has been discussed before, but what’s the deal with trying to fill up and have it show that it’s actually filled on the gas gauge? With all the clicking of the fuel handle it takes forever to gas up. Wondering if I’m missing something or if there is a trick to the gladiators

I never go past the first click of the nozzle and it shows full on my gas gauge.

Mine does the same thing too. I pull the nozzle out a bit and not fully inserted. Seems to allow air to escape better and faster fill ups. Every time I fill up, the needle never goes to full but eventually climbs it’s way up after a couple miles. Figured I would just live with it.

Agree. Not a big deal at all, just interested in seeing if it’s a common issue.

My 21 Frontier did it as well. That was my first experience. I was really frustrated at first then got used to it. So I guess I was conditioned when it started happening with my new ride.

Wouldn't even call it an issue. The burping of gas back when filling has been reported by a few too many people, that's an issue for at least some.
But keep in mind - you fill on the left, the tank is on the right side and the filler tube goes clear across the truck and enters the tank at the bottom. It's not going to fill up FAST. These are a "don't get in a damned hurry to fill it" vehicle.

The burping back of gas - yeah, I see enough reports of that to make me believe it's an issue and it's not safe or nice, either - especially if dressed up and driving your Jeep to a wedding or something and the gas jumps back at you.

I always try to fill at a station/pump where my truck sits level, or right side down if possible, and I take it slow and easy, after first click, I literally count to 10 or 15 then go slowly again, and done. It always reads full.

If the pump is clicking off a bunch then the station has its pumps turned up too high.

This basically causes gas to splash back up easier (off the sides or whatever) and activate the shutoff.

Pumps are supposed to be inspected annually (and tuned) but yea.

Easy enough to test - use a different station - one not owned by the same corporation.

Gas is blocking the hole at the end of the nozzle causing vacuum to build, tripping the handle to release. As long as that hole near the end of the nozzle stays clear, air can flow and keep pressures equal. Once that hole is blocked by gas, vacuum builds in the tube running up the nozzle and shuts it off. That's why running them slow allows a fuller fill because there's not splashing gas to hit and cover that hole building a vacuum in that tube from the gas flowing past the upper end of the tube.

Dealership fixed my gas burping issue by replacing the fuel neck tube. It was corroding and separating at the welds. Go figure.

I think I recall your post - you posted a picture, too, if I'm correct.

Maybe not related to this situation, but just a suggestion to all, when filling my tank at a gas station I place paper towels (provided by the gas station usually for cleaning windows) around the gas nozzle. This catches the gas if it splash back, dripping down on the fender.

No trick in my state. I push in the nozzle, pull the handle and lock it. Fills up. Have no problem getting gas in there from a jerry can either.

I’d guess you have some sort of filler neck/valve failure
