This is stupid, I know, but.....

I did the EJS in my TJ, back in 2000 and 2002. I would love to do it again in my Gladiator, but I don't think I can stomach the 30+ hour drive there and (assuming I don't break anything) 30+ hour drive back. Hey, I'm old.

So I thought what if I shipped the truck out there and flew in to SLC and then shipped it home. Well, I could almost buy another Gladiator for that. But what if a group of 3 or 4 of us wanted to do that and found a shipper willing to pick up all 3 or 4 trucks at once and give us a massive discount?

And how would I even go about finding a shipper willing to do that?

Just throwing crap at the fan here to see if there's a way to make this happen.

You can get a shipping quote pretty easily, just know they'll try contacting you for months afterwards trying to get your business.

I did the drive to EJS in 2021, went from NJ to VA to pick up a friend then we stopped in Indiana and Nebraska to camp the night with short stops in a few states to play disk golf and eat etc. It was a great trip, but I love driving.

They do have lots of rental options out there.

Yeah I'm really trying to avoid the thousands of spam calls and emails. I looked for hours for a company that didn't make me input my email address with no luck. I was hoping maybe someone remembers a company that's done it in the past or something. I know they do it for Pebble Beach cars and such (not that we compare ...)

Ok, maybe it wasn't HOURS.....

I love driving too, it's just a week off for the event but then a whole extra week of vacation days burned just getting out there and back is a tough pill to swallow. And that's assuming I haven't broken anything while I'm there.

And there's just no way I'd rent. It's got to be my own truck or it doesn't even seem worth the trip.

Yeah, I could never rent either. ?

As for "wasted" driving days, my wife and I did the full loop around Ireland in 2 weeks. In comparison it's like driving TO Moab, not the full round trip, but we always found multiple stops from point a to b. Broke up the day a bit by stopping at historic places, national parks, waterfall etc. And my wife HATES roadtrips lol. She actually wants to go back and try a different route in 2025.

We did a similar trip from NJ to FL, but we stopped in VA, NC, and GA for cool stuff before making it all the way down.

I'm about 15 minutes from the SLC airport. I leave for EJS the first Friday evening (that will be March 22 this year and have trail assignments usually through Wed. (I usually have Tuesday off--might do a run to Elephant Hill that day?)

If you needed a place to land your JT for shipping, I'd be happy to assist as I could. I live just north of Salt Lake City in Bountiful. $25 Uber ride from the airport. Hit me up if I can help

EJS is March 23-31, 2024 this year.

@taintedsaint wandered out last year, I believe from VA? A JT convoy could be a pretty cool sight coming across the plains? Does someone have a "Bandit" edition JT that could lead? ::)

@Mbryson is correct. I drove out from VA. I'm 80% firm for next year and look forward to running his groups again.

There's been talk of my assignments changing a bit this year. I'm usually a gunner unless "promoted" at the trail head for whatever reason. I just don't like to "lead" unless it's necessary. Maybe I'm tired of doing that at work and don't want that on my vacation? We'll see how it goes. I usually have the below schedule.

March 23, First Sat - Hells Revenge – 9am departure –9:00 a.m.meet at Susie’s Branding Iron parking lot2971 S. Hwy 191. CB-12

March 24, Sunday - Poison Spider – 9 am Utah279 (Potash Road) First pullout on right hand side. CB-11
Monday - 10am Metal Masher (another JT friend leads this)
Tuesday -- I take the day off and do something fun
Wednesday -- I'll do a trail or fill in

March 25, Monday-Sophomore Package – Dome Plateau --9:00 am meet at Trail Hub SE Corner of Hwy128 & Hwy 191. CB-14

March 26, Tuesday-Sophomore Package –Seven Mile Rim --8:00 a.m.meet at large parking lot ¼ mile past Hwy 313. CB-25

March 27, Wednesday-Sophomore Package --9:00 am meetat Gravel Pit Lanes (Bowling ) on Mill Creek Dr nearMurphy Ln. CB-1

March 28, Thursday – TBD: sometimes I head home (I live 3.5 hours away so I'm a bit spoiled) but I also try to take a trail that I've not done much/or ever as a participant
March 29, Friday—TBD: I'm always home by then
March 30, Big Saturday—TBD: I'm definitely home

I'll post up my schedule here. Love to have JT and/or old iron/FSJ/CJ/Willy's on the trail with us. JK, JL and TJ folks are welcome also, just fun to have older technology out on the trails
