Another weekend, another mod. Put together and installed the DV8 Tire Carrier. Pretty straight forward. Minor issues with the powder coating but over all great a great tire carrier. Can be used flat so you can still semi utilize the bed or slanted. The tire mounted is a 35" km3.

I love the adjustability of the carrier to be able to utilize the space underneath. Best bed carrier I've seen for the Gladiator, hands down. We've got them in stock if anyone is interested that see this thread!

Nice carrier. Can you expand on the “minor issues” with the powder coating? I’m looking at buying the same model and want to know what to expect.

Thanks — James.

Just some blemishes on the coating. I have attached some pictures of the issue.

Excellent photos, I really appreciate them. From what I can see, the flaking looks like the normal byproduct of shipping coated metal (from my experience).

Regardless , their design is a trick approach to bed mounting a tire, I really dig it.

If you have a chance, can you share a little more about?

(1). It looks like it’s corroding a little, how’s it holding up overall? Is the interior bare metal?

(2). Is there any “bouncing” or other movement when it’s latched in either position?

(3). Does the carrier cause any flexing on the back wall of the bed?

(4). What’s your overall opinion of the carrier?

Thanks again, I appreciate you sharing!

No problem, absolutely no flexing or bouncing. No rust has formed yet from the exposed metal, a trip to the powder coater will fix that once it happens. No regrets at all with it. It's nice to be able to tip it up level and store tents, coolers under it.

I really like the DV8 Adjustable Gladiator Tire Carrier but.....

Unfortunately the support brackets on the current design sticks up above the back cab side bed rail by about an inch preventing me from using my Alu-Cab Contour Canopy that sits directly on top of the bedrails.

I emailed DV8 and asked them two things:

1) If they would consider modifying future models to sit flush with the back cab side bed rail.

2) I asked them if they had already considered this and if there was a reason that it would not work. I let them know that I was considering buying their current model and modifying it so that the entire rack sits flush on top of the back cab side bedrail.

After watching 4x4 Chris's install video (link below) I think I can easily chop/notch out the interfering section that sits on top of the bedrail, reinforce it and weld it together. I'm assuming that DV8 constructed their current model this way so it could be shipped in small manageable bolt together pieces.

I'll post DV8 response.

Here is an install video from 4x4 Chris that shows how the current model sits above the back bedrail and bolts together.

If anyone has any real world experience with the DV8 adjustable tire carrier or other models please post it. In my case, I need a stout bed mounted rack that can handle a 42" tire.

Thanks.
