I learned the same thing when I had a failed battery under warranty. I called to see if it could be a while-you-wait appointment, otherwise I'd just go buy a battery. That week I was under immense time pressure, and leaving on a road trip on the weekend. They set a time, and told me it was an hour job. What they didn't tell me until after I sat in the waiting room for 2.5 hours was that I had an appointment to drop it off, and the one hour of work would commence whenever the ONLY battery tester in the shop was free.
Dude, I made it clear I just needed an HONEST answer, not the EXPECTED answer. I was happy to go pay for a new battery myself to meet my time needs. As it was I lost an afternoon AND the cost of a battery.
I know many customers are assholes. I wish there was a way to communicate that I need honest answers, even if they aren't what I wish for.
