Where's the best place to run power through the firewall?

If your JT is automatic the plastic plug on the driver side firewall.

There is, you'll have to punch through a thick rubber grommet. I guess your JT is manual transmission?
No, auto. My powered sub and amp are mounted on the passenger side. I have power going through a grommet on the floor under the passenger seat, along the frame, up to the engine compartment. I have alternator whine and my sub is chirping with volume at zero. All my grounds are inside the cab. So I'm going to run grounds to battery and if that doesn't work run power through firewall. I've tried ground loop isolaters to no avail.

You'll need this to punch through the rubber grommet on the passenger side.

Use this video as reference. Also, you can rout your wires with out peeling back the fender liner. Punch through the grommet with the above tool. Then feed coat hanger wire through the tool. You can reach from behind the fender well and pull the wire through.

Sorry for the thread necro, but I'm in the same boat as the OP, and haven't done anything quite this involved before.

In Way-a-life's video for battery swaps, Eddie removes the main battery and PDC, and it appears that there are several wire bundles leading to the firewall.

For anyone who's been under their hood in that vicinity, do you know if removing the battery and PDC like this would give you access to the passenger side grommet? It seems a bit more straight-forward than popping fender liner rivets and poking around behind the metal sheet like Matt showed in that CJ Pony Parts clip.

I can't speak to removing the battery for access, but you can peel back the fender liner away from the cab and engine and get access to that grommet without removing any rivets. It is tight, but doable. Also, rather than poking a hole through the grommet, just remove the zip tie and feed it in line with the other wires and replace with a new zip tie. I have my CB antenna cable going out this way, and after over a year, no issues.

You already have wires coming through yours? I assume you have the factory AUX group then? My truck doesn't, so I think my grommet is blank (if I'm looking at the right one).

Yes, I do. It has been awhile since I looked under there, but I only remember seeing one grommet. Check out the install instructions for the Aux switches, it gives some decent insight to wiring through the firewall.
