Got 20 gallons of water? Why not dump it into your engine.

Back in the 60s I had heard that a way to clean carbon out of engines was to slowly dump a quart of transmission fluid into the carb with the engine running at a high idle - seemed to me it was a good way to eliminate any mosquitos in about a 1/4 mile radius...
I was in college (automotive) with a fellow who had a 63 Chevy Impala with a small block V8. It was loose, man that engine was loose. He'd go to some cheap discount store and buy a case of cheap ATF. When it was time to start the car he'd dump part of a quart of ATF down the carb to give it enough compression to start. Once running it was fine and once warmed up it wasn't too bad. He did keep the bug away from our building on campus. The back of his car was always "wet" looking and oily.

so he partially hydrolocked it in an effort to get it to start? That's crazy.
