Yeah that sucks, I hate it when the sales people are jerks. If they took your information, don't hold back if/when they ask later why you haven't bought anything yet. The first dealer I sat down with in person did the same thing when I asked them to go lower than the sticker. I walked out laughing myself when he tried to show me a used Ranger.

When I was looking I called & emailed a pretty big dealer in a neighboring state. They also laughed at me, and I wasn't asking for anything out of hand (I didn't even know about invoice vs. MSRP pricing). Weeks later they kept emailing. I eventually got in a back & forth with the owner, at least the email said it was the owner. It was weird they would spend so much effort trying to get my attention but wouldn't even begin to negotiate the price.

In the meantime I found a dealer closer by who was very nice and friendly and willing to sell me what I wanted for under MSRP (they had "employee pricing" at the time and that's what they were offering me - later on I realized that is standard for everyone and you should negotiate the price independent of those type of incentives). I was excited and planned on driving up that weekend to get it. I called on Friday and it was already sold.

So I go back to my list of dealerships and find another one just like it. They offer "internet pricing" which seemed like a gimmick but when I started emailing back and forth they weren't playing around and willing to sell it for what it was advertised at. This is the ~10% off MSRP I referenced. IIRC the sticker was ~$42,100 and I paid $37,900. I was happy because it was what I wanted, I got it right then, and I didn't yet know about the handful of dealers who would sell you a new order anywhere from 6-8% under invoice, which is a significantly better deal. So much better that I would recommend anyone who can take advantage of that instead of buying off the lot.

The problem that I'm sure you're now aware of is timing. You can't order a new one right now. So you spend time and effort hunting the lots for limited inventory - and try to deal with sales people who aren't willing to deal - or you can wait a few weeks to order a new one, and then you have another couple months to figure out how you're going to pick it up. It's a 12 hr drive from S. Florida to Gupton, not something you really want to do in one go.

I know it sounds like a paid testimony but I didn't buy from them. I have however read through the 80+ pages of people who have and 99% have nothing but good things to say.

As for the JK, I would repair what you need to keep it running for another 3 months. I would also look into selling it to one of the internet companies (Carvana, Vroom, etc) since they will be a lot less picky about potential problems. If it turns on and has no dash lights blinking they're good in my experience.
what would you advise to do with the trade in?

The maximum sales tax in my state is like $500 so there's not a lot of incentive to trade vs. selling to a 3rd party. I sold mine to Carvana instead of even asking about a trade. They may still be offering crazy high prices on used cars.
