Idle Switch

So bare with me a bit here. New to diesels and not sure if I can articulate this correctly. Has anyone installed an idle type switch in a newer vehicle? In our patrol cars we have a button that lets the vehicle continue running after removing the key in order to power lights and what not. Its almost like the auto start where if you attempt to put it into gear the motor shuts down again.

Awesome wasn't sure what it was called. That's the primary reason for asking and a few other random things.
