OP puts in a lot of seat time in their rig, I would be thinking about the loss of the gadgets you have with the current Rubicon vs a (relatively) spartan SportS. Will the absence of those creature comforts grate on you? That being said, I had a 3.6 + M/T Wrangler, and was never happy with the performance. I have been Very happy with the diesel powerplant.
If it were me, I would want to find a comparable Rubicon diesel price & then decide...

OilBurner, you are correct. I do drive a lot! Don’t go wheeling much tho. The Sport S has al the same options that my Rubi has. Still on the fence.

Excellent thread and glad you posted @Salmanilla. I have been searching for a JTRD myself. No reason other than a JTR is what I wanted originally and I do miss my Diesel Canyon. I travel just over 33.5k miles a year when I had the GMC and being able to travel 550-600 miles a tank was a blessing. I didn't tow a whole lot but when I did it was may 2 to 2.5k lbs and over 100 miles each way. It would only take about 5 min to change the water filters so that was convenient and I just had to make sure I always had spares and jug of Def on hand.

My problem is, I have a Sport S that I have pretty much made mine, you can see in my Sig what I have done to it and I enjoy it very much, but my mpg's avg about 15.5mpg per tank for day to day travel and if I have to get on the interstate for a long haul I take the Mrs.'s Grand Cherokee. Mine loves fuel at anything over 60-65mph.

Do to the trade in value of my JT right now I was thinking I could get a JTR and be able to add the 35's without a lift which would help the Mrs's for she is around 5'2" with heals, lol. Plus I could get the add-ons I wish I would have got originally. After reading this and realizing I dont travel as much as I used too, a regular JTR may be something Id rather have instead of the diesel that I enjoyed so much but was worried about the emissions failing...when it ended up being the torque converter that failed in the end.

On the other hand...I do love the 4.56 gears in the Sport...should have came that way!

THanks for the post and it certainly is a very good read with out a lot the normal biased replies. Thus far. LOL

Good deal.
Now it seems the question is, 'Do you prefer life at 1,500 rpm or 3,500rpm?' LOL Good Luck! :like:
