Anyone know what the center of the steering column opening panel is used for?

The steering column opening panel has a raised middle center with a surrounded raised outline. Please refer to the picture, anyone have a clue why thats there? Im trying to do something with it but i dont know if its something i can mess with, lol. A new one is only 40 dollars so im guessing theres nothing inside it but i really want to know why they made it like that. Maybe its for an option i dont have?

I don't know if it actually has a purpose, but I cut part of it out to install my Redarc brake controller. It has plastic webbing inside, but it was easy enough to remove.

My only thought is it might be for reinforcement to keep that panel from being too flimsy. That is purely a guess though. What are you thinking about doing with it?

I need a place to mount a 6 fused power block for accessories and this seemed like a good spot.

I was going to just use the glove box but i really dont want to give up the storage space.

I cut the edges on top and the fuse box fits perfectly.

I changed two of the switches out, one with a winch switch, another with a rocker on/off/on switch.
