I built a version of Ripcords DIY wedge camper and it worked ok until about -15c and even with the 2kw diesel heater stuck directly under the large quantity of blankets with the pooch and I, I nearly froze my nuts off.
I have a vision in mind for a cross between an alucab, an Ursa Minor and a redtail overland RTT. With the rig I had built, I stuffed some slow rebound foam between the box and the rear of the cab and between the tent platform and the roof and saw very very minimal evidence of flex between the box/box mounted things and the cab. That puts to rest my concerns about twisting forces if you were to attach box to cab like an Ursa Minor hybrid. Time to full send.
In the interest of having something useable for spring, I’m going to start building a plug for a mould this or next week. If anybody is interested in something like this and wants to jump on board with designing/spec’ing of the thing, shoot me a DM. It would be pretty neat to arrange a group buy and then crowd source the build from within the group. I think we could have a lot of fun and build something hella cool.
I’m 2/10 at CAD and I can’t draw to save my life, so my M.O. is to build from the picture in my mind until I’m happy with what I’ve produced. There are obviously holes in this method so if anybody has any expertise in design, hop on board and get yourself a bomb ass camper.
attached pics of the aforementioned -15c excursion and the doggo. He’s a good mascot.
