Hello fellow Gladiator lovers!
My brother and I are planning a multi day trip following the “Outlaw Trail” from Southwest Colorado up thru Western Utah and up to Wyoming (For those not familiar, this is the route used in the late 1800s-early 1900’s by many wanted and known outlaws of the day, ie. Butch Cassidy & the Wild Bunch, etc.).
We are in the research and planning stages for a trip later this fall. I am looking for feedback from fellow off roaders (especially Gladiator owners) that have made all or part of this route.
It is my understanding that parts of this route pass thru private property, some thru State Parks, and some thru National Parks. The State & National Parks are easy enough to gain access/permits and maps via their various services. Private property is however, a different matter all together! I would assume that some property owner will be agreeable to grant access (respectfully) and some others—well, not so much! And as owner of a large ranch in Northern California, I totally understand. Some people are just foolishly disrespectful and have ruined the fun for everyone. We are NOT those guys! Any help with feedback and contact information from experienced users would be greatly appreciated.
I am planning on making the run with my Gladiator and pulling an Off Grid Expedition 2 trailer. If anyone has had any experience or could offer some “words of wisdom” regarding making this run with similar equipment, that too would be greatly appreciated. My brother plans to run his Wrangler JK. We are both experienced off road drivers and not at all concerned with facing normal trail obstacles or conditions.
We would be open to fellow enthusiasts with good skills and experience to joining us (with limited numbers— we are NOT tour guides!). We have not pinned down a date as of yet, but are thinking sometime late September thru mid October to (hopefully) avoid the hotter summer temperatures, as most of the route is high desert and arid climate country.
This has been a “bucket list” trip for many years and we want to make it as trouble free as possible and above all a FUN and MEMORABLE good experience. Any feedback and or help with planning from interested or experienced enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Happy Gladiator…ing to all!!
