I have a bad back after two surgeries and it actually hurts me to have too much lumbar support. I have a Sport S and even with the lumbar support all the way in it still hurts my back.

Is it easy to remove the seat covers and maybe shave off some of the cushioning or remove the lumbar support? Anyone ever try this or should I leave it to the experts to do? Thanks!

I have a Rubicon trim, so the back of the seat panel comes off. I installed Katzkins leather and heated/cooled seats. I ended up removing the lumbar system in the driver's seat. If you can get to the back of the seat, it is very easy to remove. There is a cable that runs from the adjuster on the side to the lumbar support. When you tighten it, the lumbar support simply slides up and arcs out. You need to remove 1 or 2 screws, then you can release the cable from the support. then you can slide the support out from 1 side of the track. I did it with the seat in the truck. Hope that helps.

In the end, I don't know how much it will help you. The lumbar piece is less than 1/4" thick. I needed to remove it because I ran ducting for the A/C in there. The lumbar, in my case, created a bulge all of the time and was less than comfortable.

Thanks! So is it even worth it to try? The upholstery shop wants $200 to shave some cushioning and possibly remove the lumbar. They said they’ll let me know once they take it apart.
