Wake me up when Toyota decides to ditch the rear drum brakes and go with something a little more modern.

No no they are better off-road according to the Tacoma chief engineer ;) ha. After owning both a 73 CJ-5 and a 47 CJ-2a with four wheel drums I know they don’t work hardly at all once you get them wet or muddy. But at least they hold the mud inside forever as well.

Wake me up when Toyota's Tacoma:
* Doesn't have seats so close to the floor with an uncomfortable seating position
* Has a screen larger than my iPhone's
* Has any advanced technology
* Has a modern engine in it
* Has a modern transmission in it
* Has offroading upgrades that are much more than their TRD STICKER OPTION

Toyota makes high quality vehicles BUT they're antiquated in today's car & truck market. You get very little for all your dollars with most every vehicle they make.

And bonus: Most of their vehicle designs are awful. They make a terrific car called the Supra. But its gawdawful styling is a cold shower on an otherwise hot package

In their defense the base turd off road package is pretty reasonable (typical pretax/fee price $33.5k if you can truly find a unicorn no options off-road) and does come standard with a rear locker, all the usual power stuff, radar cruise/safety crap, 8” screen that stays a full 8” screen with car play. The motor kinda sucks for a truck but is pretty modern with DI and Atkinson cycle.... though with all that it seems to use more gas than the Jeep.

I still think the real issue isn’t the tech it’s the platform/cab design. Toyota doesn’t really care they will sell Tacoma’s no matter how compromised they are. See South Park IT episode.
