But back to the original point. What matters most really is domestic content. How much of the value of the vehicle is made in the US?

The Ranger is built in the US but is only 45% US or Canadian content.

There aren't any domestic content numbers out for the Maverick that I can find yet. But it will be interesting.

The other factor is the fact that "domestic" in most analyses is US and Canada. That helps FCA's products look more domestic because Chrysler has plants in Canada. Notably their new battery plant is going to be in an expansion of their Windsor plant.

Finally, what is domestic?

Is a Jeep owned by an Italian company that ships its profits to Italy any more "domestic" than a Honda built in a plant in Ohio by a US subsidiary that keeps its profits here and plows them back into plant expansion?

GM is buying interiors from China and putting them in US cars.
Volvo and Tesla are now assembling entire cars in China.

IMHO, its less about where a vehicle is assembled than where the money is going. I don't want to put money in the Chinese hands. But I'm find with helping out Mexico for example. Especially these days when the US has more jobs than workers.

All excellent points. My previous truck (2011 Tundra) was built in Texas with something like 73% domestic content, more than any Ford, Chevy/GMC or Ram that year. The aluminum foundry where Toyota makes a lot of engine blocks, heads,etc. is not far from where I live & employs a lot of people.

Yup. About 15 years ago Honda opened up a foundry, engine, and transmission plant in the US. This was huge because not only did it increase domestic content of their cars and trucks in the US. They actually exported the engines globally to be used in assembly plants in other countries.

Orders for 2022 maverick are closed nationally. Basically the only way to get one is to get a canceled order Maverick on a lot and hope the mark up isnt bad or wait for orders to open in the summer on the 2023 models. I am wondering if i should get the Gobi gladiator from Gupton and wait and see if the summer orders materialize for the 2023 mavericks? Any one care to predict what the resale value would be on a base model gladiator? Slightly less than i paid? More than i paid? a shit ton less than i paid? ( i would rather just keep my Gobi gladiator and have two but my MPGs suck for commuting 2-3 hours a day in traffic... its the only reason i even want a maverick)

I'm a union man, I only buy UAW vehicles, if Mexican plants become UAW then I'll buy them, until then Canadian and American vehicles for me. I should have been more specific

Absolutely. And I don't think its going to steal many Ranger or Gladiator sales.

IMHO, its going to steal a lot from vehicles like the Rav4 and Forester. Outdoorsy people who haul tents and kayaks and stuff like that. With a cap its like a 40 mpg runabout with as much cargo space as a Suburban.
It would fit the bill exactly for what I do. Need a truck to do my stuff around the house and haul my kayak, tents, etc to fishing holes but also a daily driver. With Gas mileage like that is great. Doesn't have the fun factor of the Jeep. Unfortunatly having purchased 2 Fords in the past that were total crap don't know if I could ever purchase another one again but ya never know.
