Hey Jeep bros. New owner (soon to take delivery) here. I ordered up a Mojave recently and opted for the lowest stereo option possible (7" Uconnect) knowing that I was going to upgrade the stereo. I've owned Ram 1500-2500's with the premium Alpine system and was ultimately let down. I'm not worried about weather proofing, I've got the hard top and park in parking garages most of the time for work. So here we go:
Head unit already here, the Stinger High10.
Subs: JL Audio stealth box (dual 10s)
Front knee pods: Upgrading them to 6.5" pods for components
Rear speaker bar: Cutting this with the speaker adapter for 6.5" components
Amplifiers: Audio Control 4 channel and Audio Control mono for the subs
My thought process is that the components will have a passive crossover which will allow me to run 1 channel of the amplifier to each corner to drive the mids and the tweeters. Audio control amplifiers offer a DSP on them and I can pull signal from the 4 channel over to the mono amp.
Question: Is it reasonable to eliminate the 3" dash speaker in favor of component tweeter? I don't really want to surface mount a tweeter in the corner of the glass like I've seen and there are obviously kits that'll adapt a 1" tweeter into the space and running a coax in the kick panel and the dash seems like a redundant use of the space?
I'm leaning towards upper level speakers, JL Audio/Focal/Alpine. It's been a minute since I've shopped for good speakers so I'm trying to stay sub $350/pair if I run 2 pairs of components.
For install materials I'll run all new speaker wire to each corner, gut the interior and lay down sound deadening everywhere possible and wrap wires in quieting tape to avoid creating rattles. 0 Gauge to distribution box and 4 gauge to the amps with matching grounds. I'll build an amp rack with all the connections wrapped up. I'd like a very discreet location for the amps (probably behind the rear seat?).
Thoughts or recommendations are greatly appreciated especially regarding the use of components up front or coax in the dash. I'll document the whole process. I don't mind doing all the install work but I've never tuned a system with a DSP and I'm not proficient enough to justify buying a microphone to tune it for sure.
