The Story of JAKE-01
In 2002, long after the original Jurassic Park disaster, a small recovery crew was sent back to one of the abandoned islands to recover surviving equipment, research files, and ranger vehicles left behind during the evacuation years earlier.
Most of the old park vehicles were rusted out, destroyed by storms, or reclaimed by the jungle.
Except one.
Hidden inside an overgrown maintenance garage sat a bright yellow Wrangler Unlimited marked only with the number 02. Dust-covered, scratched, and surrounded by vines, the Jeep still looked ready to drive.
The recovery team discovered handwritten notes inside the glovebox from a mechanic named Jake, a young park worker obsessed with keeping the vehicles alive even after operations shut down. According to the notes, Jake secretly rebuilt the Jeep using spare parts from abandoned ranger units, utility trucks, and tour vehicles.
He nicknamed it:
“JAKE-01”
Not because it was the first Jeep on the island…
…but because he believed it would be the first vehicle to survive the island.
Vehicle Modifications
Jake rebuilt the Wrangler specifically for dangerous recovery missions:
  • Reinforced off-road suspension for jungle terrain
  • Emergency radio mounted to the front bumper
  • Custom utility lights
  • Recovery hooks and tow setup
  • Lightweight safari-yellow body panels for visibility
  • Park identification decals and Unit “02” markings
  • Manual override ignition system in case electronic systems failed
The small toy Jeep mounted on the hood became a strange symbol among the crew. Jake reportedly carried it as a “good luck charm,” claiming:
“As long as the little Jeep stays on the hood, the big one keeps moving.”
The Last Transmission
Park records recovered from an old server revealed a final radio message from Jake during a tropical storm:
“This is JAKE-01… fences are down in Sector B. I’m heading north through the old tour road. If anyone hears this… don’t come looking.”
After that transmission, Jake disappeared.
No body was ever found.
But the Jeep remained.
Still operational.
Still waiting in the garage.
Present Day Legend
Workers on the island now claim strange things happen around JAKE-01:
  • Radios crackle when the engine starts
  • Headlights sometimes switch on by themselves during storms
  • Fresh tire tracks occasionally appear near abandoned paddocks
  • Some swear they’ve seen the Jeep moving through the jungle at night with no driver inside
The recovery crews eventually stopped questioning it.
Now the rule is simple:
“If JAKE-01 starts… you let it go where it wants to go.”
And somewhere deep in the jungle, people still say the sound of an old Wrangler engine echoes through the trees after dark.
