Wanted to follow up on this as it’s been two weeks since I had the dealer look at it. I requested they look at the grounds that was involved with the fuel tank replacement.

They found g911a had movement. They also stated after that, they weren’t going to diagnose anymore until I had all my lights removed as they wanted to point to the aftermarket wiring hooked up to the factory aux switch wiring (that I put in and that wasn’t a problem for over a year until they worked on it). I figured that would happen, and told them I’ll wait to see if fixing g911a would help. So far, I have not seen any more intermittent flickering.

Even if there is still flickering, I will be going to a new dealer. They annoyed me with the comments on the wiring, but what really irritates me is their comments on the fact that “this is a bare stock jeep with aux. switches like a Rubicon with back up camera in the radio, are these dealer installed items?”

I would think the techs would at least know that back up cameras are mandated on all new vehicles since 2018. But maybe that’s not common knowledge for techs.

Dealers will always blame work that you did or work they didn't do on the problem. I would always expect that to happen. If the issue does come back after the g911a is fixed, I would remove your installations one at at a time and see if the issue comes back. That way you can rule out the possibility of one of those installations being the culprit, if it is. Gotta love electronics

Following up on this. I still have not resolved this issue. I’m hoping someone smarter than me can help me out.

I unhooked everything I installed, and the lights still flicker. It’s about a daily occurrence now. It’s not impacting anything except a real annoyance when I’m driving down the road and the stupid things are flickering.

Here is what I know:
  • Parking lights are flickering. It’s only the parking lights/panel lights. It’s as if someone is turning the parking lights on with the switch
  • The truck is a base sport. This means no auto headlight function and DRL can be turned off
  • Appears to have happened after dealer installed new fuel cell and fuel pump
  • Removing/disconnection aftermarket fog/spot lights didn’t help (hooked up to aux switch wires)
  • Restoring settings with JSCAN app did not help
  • Definitely happens when heat function is on (any heat temp, typically 10-15 minutes into drive)
  • Will happen with no heat on, while driving
  • Lights will flicker when truck is parked and turned off
  • I can turn the headlights on while the flickering is happening, which means the headlight switch overrides the flickering (flickering of parking lights does not impact parking lights or headlight when switch is on)
At this point, I’m at a loss. My thoughts are either it’s a bad headlight switch, something with the BCM or a bad ground (although I’m beginning to suspect that isn’t the case now)

Any help is much appreciated.

I’m following up on this for anyone who may have this issue in the future.

Late last December, the flickering in the parking lights got to be so bad that it was constantly flickering while driving. Not only was it flickering while driving, they would turn on and off while the truck was parked and then off in my garage. I managed to get a video of that.

Finally, last month, I got so frustrated with the flickering that I stopped at a gas station, grabbed a trim tool I had on hand and yanked off the trim piece to the light switch and pulled it out right there. I wanted to see if the lights would flicker without the switch. I also inspected the connection and found no problems.

With the switch disconnected and removed, I power cycled the truck. Interestingly, without the switch connected, the truck turns the lights on automatically. Then I reconnected the switch and continued driving.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the switch has resolved the issue. It’s been a month and there has been zero flickering. It wasn’t a bad ground, and it wasn’t “corrosion” from any other lights installed as the dealer wanted to claim. I don’t know what it was, but something needed to be reset. Which is what I originally told the dealer.

There is a recent thread where a poster has stated they are getting rid of their truck, and he is getting some flack for that. However, he does hold some truth in that these techs simply don’t or can’t work on these trucks/ diagnose issues. I work at a technology company and I see the same thing with new vs old test techs. Some of the new techs can’t even use a multimeter. New technology is getting more and more complicated, and new techs do not know how to troubleshoot.

I’m keeping my truck because I’m stubborn enough to figure out the issues, but I don’t plan on using dealerships to help anymore. Which is a shame because, I have the 8 year factory warranty (paid for by Chrysler because of the quality issues with this truck).
