I currently run a set of 40” Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MTs. They are great tires and I plan on keeping them. However, with winter quickly approaching I am thinking I might want a set of dedicated winter tires. We get a ton of snow where I live and while the Baja boss is supposed to be good in the snow it’s still an MT. I’ll most likely mount them on a set of non beadlocks wheels since it’s too costly and time consuming to rotate tires on a beadlock seasonally.

I’d like to stay on a 40 and that doesn’t leave me with a lot of options. Has anyone run the Patagonia XT in the winter? It’s the only 3PMSF rated tire that comes in a 40.
I’m also considering a “cheap” MT and getting it siped and possibly studded. Down side there is that they’d wear much faster.

If the snow is that much of a concern if drop to a 37 for winter in a narrower width and 3pmsf like the grabber ATX.

i considered that but I have 4.5-5” of lift height and I’m pretty sure I won’t like the look. The Pat XT is 3PMSF rated. I just don’t know if they are any good. They don’t have a ton of siping for a 3PMSF tire. If I went 37 I’d run the Baja boss AT. But the XT is significantly cheaper.

I had the 39 k02 last winter and they were good in the snow but they are also $650/tire.
