Most screens are like that with polarized glasses, nothing can be done. A screen protector would cause glare

This screen seems a lot worse than the stock 7" I replaced it with in this regard. I've seen a few products online that claim to fix the issue, but not a lot of info is available.

https://www.nushield.com/dayvu-info

https://www.tripltek.com/product-page/antiglare-oem-screen-protector-for-tripltek-8
I am not sure those screen protectors can overcome the embedded device limitation with polarized glasses. It seem like it is just stating it will not create that problem on a device that doesn’t already have it.

It would be awesome if it does prevent the issue though

I bought the NuShield DayVue screen protector to give it a try. They list the Phoenix screen as an option to order as pre-cut to size, but the screen protector wasn't the correct dimensions. I had to trim material off 2-sides to make it work. As for the screen protector itself, it does help some, but I still have to lean towards the screen a little bit while wearing polarized glasses in order to see things completely clear. It was only ~$38 all-in though, so not completely disappointed.

Thanks so much for this thread. I've been going between the IA JL4001 and the Linkswell Gen 5 but this may be a better option for me based on everything you have stated about it. I do have a couple of questions, though, if you don't mind:

First, I'm concerned about it not having an IPX rating. I'm not taking my Gladiator Scuba diving anytime soon and I don't go wheeling much on this one but I live in TN and there's always a possibility of getting stuck in a flash downpour with the top down. Is that a valid concern or am I overhtinking it? I know the IA is the only head unit with an IPX rating, which is pretty much why I always end up back on their webpage.

Second, I'm looking to add some blindspot cameras to my mirrors, do you know if this will support those?

Editing for a 3rd Question. My Gladiator is a base Sport S....no power locks/windows or anything, and I'm not sure about GPS. I know the IA unit has a built-in Antenna so I can use GPS without my phone, does this unit have the ability to do that as well or will I always need to pair my phone with it?

Thanks in advance.

The SC7862 comes with it's own GPS antenna. If you have Sirius/XM already in your Gladiator, you can use the existing antenna which is located on top of the roll bar. It picks up GPS signals and Phoenix includes an adapter so you don't have to use a separate GPS antenna. If you want to access Sirius/XM, you will need to stream on the headunit itself. As for the waterproof question...no it is not. Don't know about the blind spot camera connections.

As mentioned, most of the gladiators have built in GPS and microphones. This unit can connect to those if they are present.

No IPX rating so I would be aware of that.

They sell this same unit on AliExpress and you can order one with the 360 camera connection. The one from Phoenix does not have it. It cost more on AliExpress.

I ordered an Open Box off of the Phoenix website for much cheaper. It looks like the blindspot cameras just need a composite/RCA connection so I think it has one of those. If not, then no blindspot camera for me. :)

Yes, you can use a blind spot or 360 system using composite connections. You just can’t use the ones that are cheaper because they expect an embedded controller.

ok, my unit arrived today and I've got everything connected and working perfectly, the only thing I can't figure out is where to connect the OEM mic to the head unit. Anyone have any pictures or can tell me where to find it on the back of the head unit?

It should already be plugged in. There is a mini din RCA plug labeled mic. It should have something plugged in already. You may have to go into factory settings and enable OEM Mic.

Yeah, It's working....there were so many wires I missed it but it seems to be working once I got everything hooked up and started testing. I must be getting old, this stuff never seems so difficult in the past.

How are you guys liking this unit? The only thing that bugs me is it shows some generic car in some of the screens. I almost pulled the plug on the alpine restyle but it's a bit steep at $2300. I'm also not a fan of the stinger or insane audio.
