Protection/Insurance when buying from others online

Is there a good option for getting some kind of protection/insurance when buying parts from others online? EX: Something listed on Facebook Marketplace and seller says they will ship. Was thinking couldn't they list it on ebay and I could buy from them there and get protection? Just been burned recently and don't want to go throught that again.

One of the easiest ways is to only use paypal as a payment method. Zelle, cashapp, etc typically do not have protections, and should only be used for relatives... Just make sure the payment you use has buyer protection, and insist on your payment method. If the seller tries to insist or force their preferred payment method on you, then walk away.

I have never bought an item to be shipped on Marketplace. FTF only.
I did see something the other day and asked if the seller would be willing to ship first and then I'd send payment when the item was delivered.
I could tell it was a scam from the get go, but I thought it would be fun to bring up the fact that trust is a two way street.

My credit card covers me up to $20k or so. Paypal also has buyer's protection, just don't send the payment as a "gift" to get around the fees and taxes.

Facebook offers purchase protection on some items if you checkout through Facebook.

I was recently the seller in a transaction where the buyer used Facebook for payment and Facebook required proof of the buyer receiving the shipment before I got paid.

How did you set it up to where the purchaser could buy your product through Facebook?

I think I set it up one time when creating a listing and allowing Facebook payments, but I can't remember for sure.

I should mention, I was charged a 5% fee for this transaction.
