So I had to do a me day so I thought I’d hit a trail I haven’t been on in well over a year. When I got to the trail head… the map and messages were gone.
After hours of riding around and even after driving up to the bombing range (*** Still Active ***) I came up on another camping area in the SW portion of the National forest and it was empty. Kinda strange. I saw another message board and in this one it clearly stated Closed. Come to find out, bombing practice was ongoing and I had just been driving around in the middle of the closed portion of the Southern half of the whole National Forest that is separated by state road 40 that runs east west.
Now interestingly, the bombing range has a high fence and I’ve never seen them block off this much of the park.
No, as far as off-roading trails, Ocala national forest is sketchy at best. Definitely not worth it as scratchy as many of the other trails are and now they’re severely limited.
