As title suggests. I realize everyone does the standard mounting of cross bars, etc.
I am not. My RTT will be mounted directly to the canopy. The RLD canopy has 6 pre-existing holes in the roof. I believe they are 3/8. You can see them here if you zoom in.
My 4X4 Colorado Nimbus tent had two rails for mounting but I removed them. The base floor of the tent is a sandwiched honeycomb. I believe the honeycomb is a type of fiberglas or alum composite. I will be drilling new holes, 6 of them, that line up with the existing holes in the canopy.
I know that most likely what I will end up doing is just using SS bolts washers and lock nuts.
What I am interested in is if anyone knows of a quick release style bolt or Nut or otherwise.
My initial thought was something like this picture, coupled with a rivet nut and large washer (to distribute forces) on the inside of the tent floor.
A quick release method will allow me to drastically reduce the amount of time I need to inconvenience friends or neighbors to aid in removal if I needed/wanted to. It also will eliminate the need for one person to be in the tent and another in the canopy to tighten nuts and bolts.
one concern/question I have is I am unaware of the strength of common cam bolts found on amazon and if they are actually stainless steel or not. I do have the ability to install bolts on the center ridge as well which could add 3 more for a total of 9 bolts. But even at 6 that is 2 more than most people with only 4 points of tie down.
