Has anyone used that clear paint/rock shield film that you use on your car body for paint protection on your windshield? What has been your experience? Does it work? Visibility issues? etc.?

Thinking about it for my windshield after a huge crack appeared after less than 2 months of ownership!

I’m trying to find a local shop that can install Mylar tear offs that are used in racing. You can stack several layers on to increase the protection offered...

I have ClearPlex on my GT4 and plan to have it installed on the Gladiator.

They suggest waxing it once a month and it will definitely get pitted and worn on a daily driven vehicle. You can expect 12-24 months out of it and then will need to be replaced. For me, it's worth it because I hate the process of replacing the windshield.

Are the windshields really that weak? This is my first jeep. I’ve never owned a car before that I was worried about the windshield.

I just entered the PCA raffle for the GT4 so when I win it we’ll have to get together with our Porsche’s and Jeeps for an epic photo shoot!

Not weak per say, it's the fact that the windows are allot more vertical. So instead of glancing off, the rocks hit nearly head on. More energy absorbed by the windows. Compare the rake of the window versus a sedan.

Not that they are weak, per se...but due to the fact they are almost vertical, they are more prone to take direct hits rather than glancing blows. Rock chips: it IS a Jeep thing.

That and the fact that the glass is flat and not curved makes it easier to crack. So it's a combination of things. Also, where people drive is a factor. If you drive where there are a lot of rocks you are increasing your odds of chipping/cracking any windshield. I live in the country and drive about 60 miles a day on roads that are heavily traveled by farm vehicles and gravel/rock trucks. I am kind of doomed from the get go.
