Roof rack to bed rack

I have a Smitttybilt roof rack that I removed from a vehicle that I sold recently and have been pondering what to do with it. After a few camping trips I came up with a plan. I put together my own bed rail system out of some unistrut that I had left over from another project. I painted it with bed liner paint but I don’t think it will last so I may remove and powder coat. I had some brackets made at my local Metal Supermarket. I will probably have those powder coated as well. It went together nicely and I look forward to trying it out.

It's awesome that you were able to get custom brackets made. Since you used Strut for the rails, did you think about using Strut for the cross rails too? Just curious is all.

Thanks. Your pic shows how much of the Gladiator bed it covers and I see online that it measures 4' x 5'

I'm doing something a bit different but using a "roof rack/basket" for mine.

I ordered this one (airfoil is removable) which is 43" x 53" (5" narrower and 7" shorter than the Smittybilt):

I thought about using strut for the crossbars but I didn’t like the look. The brackets are much stronger than I expected once the unit was all bolted together. I am 250lbs and it was very stable with me standing in it.

They can fab just about anything you might need. I was surprised at their capabilities.
