After seeing your original post, I looked for it at Amazon and got an "extra sticky 3M" version of the tape. Product at this link. So far it has held up really well - and I've been pleased at how well it works. Thanks for the original suggestion!
So if you get water in the bed, will it drain out through the fuzz?

Looks to be the same as what I have. Can you take some picks of the tape so we can compare.

I was thinking of even using the real good 3M industrial double sided tape and cutting some strips for the curved portions.

Ill take some detailed pics of what I bought

That's exactly the reason I thought this was a great thing to try instead of going directly to the full rubber seal method. My tonneau does a good job at keeping water out, but not 100% perfect. I've checked the bed the afternoon after some heavy rains and a little bit of water would be in there and found there was nothing in the bed, though you could see tracks where there was a bit of water that was there but did drain out/wicked through.

Here you go, hopefully it helps. I did wipe down the paint with alcohol pretty good before applying.

Is it like a very thin paper layer of double sided tape?

Yes - exactly, just like your top pictures. The double sided stuff you got looks like it would be super - did you get that from Amazon?

That’s the type of tape that’s used for body moulding: it should hold weatherstripping just fine.
