Soft top, have there been bad batches of them? that were supposed to be thrown out

Probably a stupid question. But probably gonna purchase from a private seller, a new premium soft top still new in the box. The date on the box is March 18, 2022. And the part number is 8221–5614-001.

Have any of these been faulty, bad batch, bad fit, or supposed to have been scrapped by the dealer? Only reason I’m asking, is that the guy got it at a jeep dealer, and he says management was gonna throw it away. Just makes me wonder…
