ON my 2014 Wrangler I had the original standard (vinyl) top. And loved it. Later on a switched to the Premium top and regretted it. Seemed looser to me.

I do imagine the Premium top will last longer, however, I'm curious if someone has experience with both on the Gladiator? Anyone actually prefer the cheaper top? Does it seem tighter? Does it flap less or more?

Asking because I'm in the market now.

I don't have any experience with the 'sailcloth' top, but I will say that the way they designed it, it won't be loose. the frame and latch system, with the separate back window and side corners, hold the whole top good, tight, and flat.

Plus its adjustable to a certain extent.

Probably the material, I like the standard top material myself.

The soft top on my last Wrangler was the lower cost vinyl one. I had it for five years, but only used it from April to December (dual tops). I had no problems with age-related deterioration, but it was definitely fragile (I had to "patch" two tiny holes with RTV). My JT came with the premium twill top and it's a night and day difference and totally worth the extra cost, IMO. It's insulated and let's in less road noise and on windy days it flaps less because it's 4x thicker than the base top I'm familiar with. As far as tightness, it loosened up slightly over the first summer, as expected, but not to the point of being loose. My Jeep has 52k miles and I've had it since 7/2019, so it's been through 5 summer and fall seasons.
