So I am in the process of purchasing a white Sport S manual transmission soft top that does not have the max tow package. I've been reading forum after forum and still in the dark. I'm looking to add bigger tires and keeping with the 17" rims. I will be changing from the chrome rims to all black. I do not plan on doing rock climbing, just you average mud trails. I'll probably say most of the time will be spent on highways with a little weekend fun. What size tires do you recommend?
I have read the tire width plays a factor hydroplaning so I am thinking 10.5". I will have a little one with me and we do get frequent rains. I was thinking 32" , preferably 33" all terrain tires vs mud tires?
235/85R17 = 32.7X9.3R17
255/75R17 = 32.1x10R17
275/70R17 = 32.2x10.8R17
285/70R17 = 32.7x11.2R17
255/80R17 = 33.1x10R17
285/75R17 = 33.8x11.2R17
295/70R17 = 33.3x11.6R17

I know it's a matter of opinion but what would you recommend and why? Also what brand tires do you recommend?
I do not plan on towing and if I do tow, it will be nothing crazy big.

Here is a pick of my Sport S with the stock wheels (245/75R17) compared with the Launch Edition takeoffs I purchased from a fellow forum member. The new tires are standard Rubicon 285/70R17. There are no rubs in normal driving or light offroad use and I have 1.5 inches of clearance on the inside front fender. Some users have removed the front air dams\splash guards from the bumper to get more clearance but I have not done any significant off roading yet so I don't know if the 1.5 inches is adequate.

The 285/70R17 tires ride really well. The guy I bought them from indicated a significant hit to gas mileage but I don't have enough time on them yet to validate if true or how much. As you can see it changes the look a lot.

My Sport S with max tow with Wildpeaks 285 75 R 17. Before Mopar 2” lift. I had no rubbing issues on pavement.

it's been 8 months since your post. I'm interested in getting those tires for my unlifted sport S, but I plan on doing some serious offroading with the sway bar disconnected. have you done that? have your tires ever rubbed?

I have been offroad but I would not call if serious offroading. There has been no rub at anytime and I could still remove the airdams to give it extra clearance. I really like the look of the standard Rubicon tires on the Sport.
