Found this uncommon solution to meet map and work needs. Runs off 12-24v, low current draw. The lamp is moderately cool white with a built in dimmer and focus to shift from spot to flood. I am using the alligator clip mount but it could easily be hard mounted. Built like a tank to mil spec.

Nice recommendation. Can't remember the last time I used a map, but sometimes I like to read in the passenger seat on long road trips and this might be a way to do some late-night reads.
