So I bought my first camper, weighing in at 4,000lb dry.

Today I took my buddies camper on a practice haul just to get a feel for what I am getting into next weekend. His unit is nearly identical weight wise and was a good way to get my feet wet.

I currently have a stock Sport S on 35s, I had low expectations going into Today but the truck did great on the stock gears. Easily cruised at 55-65 mphin 4th and 5th gear. It was revving pretty high, but she did the job.

I did put a deposit to upgrade to 4.88s earlier in the week, which should happen in the next month. My question is what should I expect different from the stock setup towing woae? Being the truck outperformed my original expectation with stock gears, I am curious what change I'll see.

As a wild guess sligtly better MPG's possible (likely) and at least holding in a few higher gears in transmission. I'm not in quite same situation 4:10 gears and 33s but I definitely notice a drop in mileage when towing and running in lower transmission gears. Higher oil temperature and drops down to 6 and 5 gear going up hills.
The 4:88 gears should help keep your JT closer to stock powerband with the larger tires. It might give you a few extra miles per gallon back overall.

Thanks, this is what I was thinking power wise. I was getting 10.5 mpg, we rode around for about 40 miles anywhere from 30mph to 65mph putting it through the paces. I'd be thrilled to see that inch up.

Huge improvement with the 4.88s. I do intend to go with 37s when the 35s are worn out and am confident it will still be good to go.
