After doing some research, I realize that our options for upgrading is limited by the depth of the head unit. As a result, I have been looking at the Stinger Heigh10 or the Insane Audio JL4001 as an upgrade to my 7" radio. Both are ridiculously expensive, but not as pricey as some of the Alpine upgrades. For those of you who have upgraded, what made you go with either radio and the pros and cons?

I had the Insane Audio unit and sent it back because there is no way to connect your OEM front Trail Cam. Just installed the Phoenix SC7862 8 Gig/128 Gig yesterday and it is incredible! Everything works as advertised and the customization capabilities seem endless. I'm very pleased.

I went with the JL3001 - at the time, the 4001 had not been released. The 3001 has far better specs than the Stinger unit, so from that standpoint, it is superior. It seems that IA has been taken over by new management, and the launch of the 4001 model has been fumbled in many ways, I am hesitant to recommend it, but even their older model has better specs than the stinger (excluding the obvious of screen size).

There are a lot of threads discussing this, you can find more info on these from digging one up.

Have checked the previous threads and that created my conflict. People seem passionate or frustrated with either system. That's why I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on something so expensive. My local installer is a fan of the Stinger unit, and says to avoid Android units like the plague. But then I read your post that says the Insane JL3001 has better specs than the Stinger unit. Hence this thread.

I hear ya, thats why I leaned into the specs. A lot of it seems to come down to subjective stuff - people who had a good or bad experience, liked or disliked features, etc. I ended up going for the IA 3001 because (at least at the time I purchased it) it had a newer version of android, I think it had more RAM, etc. Same thing with the programmers, you can chase your tail between good and bad reviews trying to make a decision.

Im half awake and need more coffee, but I hope whatever you end up going with works well for you!
