Hey guys,

I need some advice or insight, especially from those that are in a similar boat.

When I bought my 21 Overland almost two years ago, I was planning on waiting to upgrade to a larger tire until I wore out the stock rubber.

Now I'm nearing that point (will need new tires before the fall at this rate) and am having second thoughts. My Overland has a manual transmission with the lingering clutch recall that has yet to be addressed. Also, I tow alot during the summer months; double pwc trailer, sea doos w full tanks and gear is about 2400 lbs.

Now, going up to a 35, do you think this added weight, rolling resistance, etc is going to be asking for trouble? Or should I just stick to stock sizes for now, at least until jeep does something about the clutch?

Thanks in advance!

You have 3.73:1 differential ratio. That in itself could be problematic for 35s.
I'd not want to tow with that combination but of course I tow 5,000 pounds when I tow.
I'd only go up to 33s (which are technically only about .6" taller than the stock 32.2" tires as Rubicon Falken 33s are 32.8")
You may be ok with the much lighter load, but if it's hilly or a lot of stop and go, you are going to be at a disadvantage taking off with a manual transmission. Not only gear ratio-wise but the clutch is going to be working harder with the larger tires and the load behind it.

Just my opinion - owning a Overland with an automatic and having had 33s on it in the past (I went back to stock diameter, but a bit wider A/Ts so my A/T tires are same diameter as my stock H/T tires were)

Towing with a manual and 3.73s and 35's is probably relegating your 6spd to a 4spd with a trailer. I wouldn't worry too much about the clutch though.

Not while towing, but taking off won't be as much fun, will take a bit more to get it going.
But while on the highway it shouldn't be as great a deal.
The clutch is junk anyway. Good excuse for an upgrade.

My thoughts exactly. And 4L to get the seadoos in the water and the trailer back out.

Thanks for the input, guys. I opted to err on the side of caution for now and decided to stick with stock for now. I found a set of dealer take-off Overland wheels (4+spare) with near zero dueler hts for 800. I figured for what it would cost for tires/mounting/balancing, this was a decent deal. And then I'll have my old overland 18s to possibly throw something bigger on a little later down the road.
