2021 Gladiator Willy’s ,3:73 gears,
A little background.
My drive to work is around 60 miles , mostly backroads. Bone stock I would find 8 th gear on almost all my straightaways on the way ( approx, 50-60% of the trip).
About a month ago installed 2” AEV lift and 255/75/17 (34”) tires.
Reset tire size with Jscan.
With 34” tires was finding 8th only occasionally on long downhill straightaways. MPG down from 21 to 18.5.
A week ago had a deer jump up from a ditch . Was going down hill and in 5th or 6th gear. Slammed brakes and dodged to opposite lane. Deer turned back towards the ditch and when I let off brakes and accelerated noted Jeep was in 2nd gear and high rpm’s. Rest of the way to work Jeep never shifted higher than 6th gear. Would rev up to 4-4500 rpm before shifting even down hill.
After a 12 hr shift on the way home jeep shifted like it did before tire upgrade .
Now finding 8th gear on almost all straights. At least 50% of time.
Mpg back to 19.5. Shift down to 7th and back to 8th on small hills. Almost as much as before the 34” tires.
Seems the quick stop geared the transmission down and after the ecu reset while at work it finally relearned the shift points.
Anyone ever seen anything like this??
