I'm running 37's and have 4.10 gears on my Max Tow, have not regeared and get 17.2-17.5 mpgs. Just got 18 on our way to the beach. Jeep looks like this

My Stock Rubicon on 33" tires (Stock) doesn't even get that good of MPG! I drive mostly city and get about 15MPG if I take a road trip I get about 16-17 MPG. I dont push hard on gas and I try not to use the breaks as much as possible but I can't seem to get any better MPG. What's the secret?

What truck are you looking at?

Sport? Overland? Rubi/Mobi? Max Tow?Gas/Diesel?

4.10 vs 3.73

4.10 35 wo re-gear in gas.
3.73 33’s wo re-gearing in gas.

Yes there are guys w 37+ on 4.10’s.

Diesel has a lot more tq you can change those above some.

Honestly I put a lot.of thought in how mines set up. For one the bumper choice comes into play. I wanted to fill up.as much of that gap between the bumper and fenders as I could, that's why I went with a full width high clearance bumper. I also use the start/stop feature, you may not believe it but it makes a difference. Other than that, i stay around 70-75 on the interstate and drive it like a jeep not a race car.

I figured mines a Max Tow that had that stupid looking thing that runs from the bumper to the fenders on it. The thing in this picture. I removed it and notice more wind drag and that I lost about 1 mpgs as a result. I also was running 35's then but I had it on there like this for over a month with the 35's and before I removed it I was getting about 19.1 on the 315 70 17 BFG KO2s. Tire weight was another factor I thought about. Once I removed that section i dropped to around 18 mpgs. I then added the front bumper, winch and Rubicon take off front springs. I ended up getting to 18.4mpgs running it like I currently am on 35's.

That's just my observations and trial and error on it. I also use the stop/start, i never turn it off so it does it's thing. You will be surprised.how bad these thing do idling. You will lose some mpgs for sure if sit idle a lot.

I’ve scoured all the info available is, and it’s a lot. I’d just like to know what lift/tires can I go with on my JTR that wouldn’t require anything extra (gears, break lines, etc). Is the default answer of
  • 35s (and which 35 is another debate which I need help with. KO2s?) and
  • the Mopar 2” (Are those shocks as good as the ones I have? Is there a better kit out there?)
really the best way?
I've got a 21 Rubicon and recently added 35" KO2's. Excellent tire for highway and did excellent offroad. We just drove from AZ to Utah (500 miles, plenty of hills) and I averaged 19MPG. We did Hell's revenge and several other smaller trails and it performed perfectly for my needs. I don't plan on any serious rock crawling in the near future. Just need a little more clearance. Scraped the hitch a bunch on Hell's but no damage. I was planning on the Clayton 2.5 Overland but after seeing how well it did stock with 35's I'm just going to get the Mopar lift for now.

Hey JeeperJamie, how are you doing with those 37.. I've read that they affect acceleration but seems to do pretty well in the video. What trim is that you have that has 410 gears?

It's a Max Tow sport. I've been running 37's since February and I don't feel like I've lost much power at all. The 8spd Transmission really helps. I'm still getting over 17 Mpgs on winter gas. It really don't hunt for gears, i stay in 7th or 8th mostly on the interstate between 60 to 80 mph. I don't normally drive much over that.

Thanks for reply I still working on deciding if gasser will work or the diesel be much better. I could only find the 410 on the Rubicon and Mojave but let me look some more at the max tow sport.
