there are only two nonos to automotive painting. No brushes. No rollers.
Everything I paint on this jeep seems to peel off. I painted my bumper project the following way…automotive etching primer, mopar rattle can paint, automotive clear coat. It comes off with car washes. I clearly am doing something wrong. Something that would probably be obvious to, and make real painters laugh.

Does the primer come off too? Paint is all about the prep. Metal needs to be CLEAN and each layer needs to have enough "teeth" for the next layer to stick to.

I think the primer stays put for the most part. I’m asking because it’s on my list to remove and redo from scratch.

I'm no painter but I've painted my share of automotive body parts over the years. Cleanliness and prep is vital to success. It's possible that your paints (primer/color/clear) don't work well together. I would think that if the paint doesn't stick to the primer then it's a contaminant problem, and/or the paint and primer don't work well together, and/or the primer needs a light scuff sanding before color.

Thanks. I’ll get someone to validate my materials before I go for round two sometime this year.

I have not washed it yet, but I did lightly sand and polish it when I put it on and it seems solid. No pro painter here, but if it is peeling off, it must be in the prep or the solvents. This was very textured ABS. I did scuff it with some 1500 grit to smooth it a bit. The Jeep paint has a good amount of orange peel, so I didn't get crazy smoothing the plastic. After the 3rd wet coat of clear it was pretty smooth.

What I do know about painting, it is either something with the prep of the surface, or an issue with dissimilar chemicals flashing off and not allowing it to properly cure and bond.

Based on reading, I know that the Mopar rattle can is lacquer based. That is pretty hot and you need to be careful what you use with it above and below.

We ended up buying the paint and primer from Touchup Direct online. I've also not had the best luck with the Mopar touch up pens and cans, so we went a different direction. The rattle can from touchup direct is water based and the paint and primer spray really smooth. The 2K was bought on Amazon and went over it nicely. So maybe try a different brand of paint and primer and keep them the same formulation.

Good approach. Thanks. Too bad I still have like 5 cans of mopar paint. Oops.

You’ll bang up something else eventually, I call this a good proactive procurement.
Sooner than later is typical for me.

Installed e-link sway bar links. Need to talk to them tomorrow to get them up and running, but they look good. Currently they’re just locked, so feel like (are) a connected swaybar.

If its plastics you need a plastic specific paint so it will flex. If it is not plastic then a quick scuff followed by adhesion promoter then prime and paint/clear.
I will also use adhesion promoter on plastic, but I left that out.

Salty, meaning price? If so, they’re pretty close to anti rock or swaylock, and are way more functional. Are they expensive for swaybar links? Of course. But they’re awesome. :)

My bumper is steel. Thanks though.

Bought a battery maintainer. Historically, before we moved, it had been in the driveway and my solar panel maintained the batteries. Now in the garage I’ll use this when it’s going to sit for a week. I probably won’t hook up the pigtail permanently as I won’t use it every time it’s in the garage. But who knows.

I need to do this.... Sometimes my Jeep sits for several days out of the week. On my 3rd set of Mopar batteries in less than 3 years.
