From the urban jungle to your favorite trail, NXTGEN Automotive's Cross Terrain steps are the best engineered solution for your factory rock slider rails. Our unique, patented design is the first and only drop-down step for the JL wrangler OEM rail. Sitting 4.5 inches below the center of the rail and a foot below door sill, they are the best entry aid available.

Key Features:

  • Made in the USA
  • 300 pound step weight limit (please note the factory rail is not weight rated)
  • Removable – Quick and easy removal when you need more clearance
  • Fits OEM Rock Rails – Mounts to the standard factory rock slider rails (not the Mopar performance wider version)
  • Built for Off-Roading – Remove for trail days, reinstall for daily use
  • OEM Look, Rugged Build – Durable coating to match the rail it is attached to
  • Sold as a Pair – Includes tools and hardware
Why choose Cross Terrain steps?

  • Unique, patented design delivers a clean, factory look and drop-down usability
  • Designed and made exclusively for Jeeps, not a carryover from Bronco like other bolt-on steps
  • Stronger construction and a more sophisticated design vs other competing steps for factory rock guards

For daily driving and light off-road use, the steps can remain in place with similar clearance to aftermarket rails with integrated steps.

With a few quick screws per side, the step can be removed from the clamp for full clearance. The bottom clamp assembly is rust and impact resistant alloy and is designed to be left on for many off-road situations. For the most extreme use, such as more robust rock crawling where the sliders will be dragged on rocks, the clamps can also be fully removed. The upper clamp assembly is precision die-cast, high-carbon steel and can withstand more weight than the factory rail itself.

The first units are now available for pre-sale, with an estimated shipping date between June 12-19th. Our team at the production facility in the Midwest has packed the units and they are on the way. Tracking says it should be at our So-Cal office on Friday June 13th.

This first batch is 250 pairs and another 500 pairs are in production for late to July should you miss out on this first truck.

So roughly $700 for a set of 4 steps. Yikes thats expensive.
We sincerely appreciate the feedback.

We understand pricing will be a factor in evaluating our product versus others, and they will not be for everyone. With that in mind, there are some things we'd like to put out there for consideration.

First and foremost, there are a lot of similar products from many great sellers and creators for our Jeeps. Our Cross Terrain steps are truly a first of their kind innovation. The JL Wrangler has been on the market for 7 years and no one has been able to make viable, removable drop down for the factory rails. Our year and half development process, the engineering and tooling are into the 6 figures before we ever even produced the first step for sale.

AR.webp

Archetype’s clamp-on steps (now out of business) cost close to $1,000 for a set of four—before tax and shipping. After tax and free shipping, a set of 4 was $1,073 at our tax rate. Our steps are much larger, much more complex and drop down. We could probably build two full sets of their design for what it costs to make one set of ours, but we are about $225 under what those cost.

IAG.webp

IAG is a newer option, with a pack of 4 about $500 plus tax and free shipping. The cost to our area for 4 would be about $543, Which is about 50% less than ours. But these are a vastly different product, with ours being about 300% more expensive to produce. We can likely make 3-4 sets of the IAG style for every 1 of ours. They also do not drop down.

Power drop down steps:

Another drop down step options that is not in the way when wheeling, but over $1,600 more than our solution.

A different product type but a similar price point is a good set of replacement rock slider rails.

Despite the fact that a good pair of rails are excellent protection, they are pretty simple to make. They are mostly just bent tubular steel and welding. Our steps don't have a single weld. They are solid USA sourced high carbon steel or alloys (depending upon the part), which are precision die-cast or stamped. Being that as it may, you could still make a few pairs of good rails for what one of our step pairs cost to make. The price of producing high-precision parts like this is quite different than more typical bending and welding.

Any skilled DIY person could bend and weld up a great pair of sliders in a home shop. It would not be likely to make something like ours, given our process and the tooling required.

We understand when a lot of people see the price, they’re gonna think that we are gouging them, and trying to take them for a ride. That is the absolute furthest thing from the truth. Given the tooling, development and IP costs, we will be selling these at a loss for the first few production runs, at least. This is not uncommon when you have the types of development costs a product of this complexity has.

But we wanted to give our fellow Jeepers an option that did not exist and we were willing to invest in it. The AR and IAG steps actually started on the Bronco platform. The Jeep OEM sliders are a very complex product with unique curves that vary between the JL, JLU and JT. The Bronco slider is much more simplistic, and pretty much just straight. The same Bronco versions of the other clamp on steps are cheaper than the Jeep models, due to the Jeep complexity.

We completely custom developed these for Jeeps only, and we hope the community members that choose us, enjoy the product and it makes life easier.

We were just starting to make these when the 145% China tariffs happened. It did delay us a bit because there was this massive rush to get USA sourced steel and alloys right when we were ramping up and procuring the raw materials. But if they were Chinese they could have been like 3 grand... 😂🤦‍♂️

My wife and I have been waiting for these for a while and she is excited they are finally here. She is only 5' and a dropped step is exactly what she needs. I do a lot of trails where I'd want the step part off so this is pretty ideal.

I'm excited because every time she gets out she slides down the seat and just kills the leather.

I'll post some feedback once I get them and I'm also actually looking forward to these mirrors too.

I know it took time to get this right and I probably emailed about 100 times for an update. But it is appreciated that you guys did this.
