I use extruded aluminum to build machines at work and took some inspiration from a build I seen on here and some others I had seen online and built my own drawer system with a water tank against the cab. I used an electric ball valve to open or shut off the tank and rigged up a safety where my water pump can’t be switched on without it being open. I ran my lines from the pump to quick connects so that I can run water to my sink or to a water heater for showers. The drawer on the left is my kitchen drawer. I used a folding rv faucet and collapsible sink to try and be as conservative with space as possible.

Above the sink is a utensil drawer. I also wanted plenty of counter space for food prep so I used coffee table lifts for the biggest part of the drawer so I still had plenty of storage without sacrificing the counter space. I used ambrosia maple on the drawer faces and ambrosia maple with a strip of walnut for the countertop. I have also put rechargeable under cabinet lights on the bottom of the lifting section so that I can easily see everything at night when I need to grab something.

The drawer on the right is just a big storage drawer for all my gear and tools I like to keep on hand. I used 500lbs locking slides on both drawers and I should never have to worry about overloading them. The drawers are made out of 3/4 maple plywood and the top deck is made out of 1/2 maple plywood. I used raptor liner to coat the inside and outside of the drawers and the top and bottom of the top deck so that it can handle plenty of abuse.

If there’s enough interest I may consider building custom drawers systems like this for sale and if I do that then I will do a write up with the step by step process.

That’s really very well done!

I’d like to build something that fits along side the driver side of the bed. Front to back, about a foot wide, maybe a bit more and just the height of the bed.

Something simple with lift off lids to hold supplies.

You want something just wider than the width of the wheel well in the bed from front to back?

Man this is awesome! How long did it take you to make that? Looks like superior quality! I have been thinking of making a slide out drawer on the drivers side - similar to what SHW offers, but out of extruded/birch plywood. Those guys are nuts charging 2,500 bucks. Now your setup, I can totally see that - its some good quality.

It took me a few months working on it when I had time to spare. I have around $1500-2000 in materials in the build. Some of the cost was wire and electrical supply’s and connections. I used Anderson plugs for my connections to the water pump from my spod under the hood and for the switch panel and 12v jack that runs straight off the battery so that I could use the switches as a secondary input on the spod to turn things off and on without having to get in the cab or install another touch screen display. Having everything made for a simple uninstall if I wanted to take it out. I was buying the materials when all the lumber prices and wire prices were sky high. I finished it up a little over a year ago and just decided to show it off and hopefully give some people some ideas or advice.

Pretty much. Something to keep all my recovery gear in, some tools. Whatever else will fit. I’m thinking I’ll use this since - www.eztube.com

Decently cheaper than 8020 and people on Expedition Portal liked it.

Thanks. Quite a bit cheaper than 8020.
To be on the safe side, I’m going to wait until my canopy campers installed. I don’t want to make any storage unit too tall and have it interfere with the mounting brackets. But I’m definitely going to keep some notes and have everything ready to order as soon as I can.

I’ll back him up on Tnutz.com. I just compared the prices of the 1” aluminum tube vs the 1” extruded aluminum on tnutz and tnutz actually was slightly cheaper. The cost of the corner brackets and things are going to be a little more and it will take a little more work to assemble but you will get a sturdier build. Not to mention if you wanted to add tie downs or add something later down the road it will be extremely simple. I use it because it’s so modular and very sturdy. You can get the corner brackets and hardware on Amazon for pretty cheap.
