So you are wanting a Diesel for better MPG? What is the actual monetary offset of diesel vs gas, as diesel is more money per gallon? You'd only save ~$1k a year... is that enough to offset new purchase/Tax/interest rate/registration/etc?
That's what baffles me - all of the talk about "but I get such fantastic MPG!"
Uh, yeah, but the cost of the money that it takes to buy the diesel due to price difference, and then there's still the big price diff per gallon.

Gas - 3.09 compared to Diesel - 4.67 per gallon
Then the diesel is another what, 6 grand? There's a money cost there.
The cost of oil, filters, DEF.......
stop bragging about the mpg - you aren't money ahead. It's just a "yeah, but I get great mpg!" thing to ignore the rest, I suppose.
If you want a diesel, buy one, but it's not going to save money. It's because you WANT one.

Math never favors the diesel. You buy it for other reasons but do not do a mental feint and convince yourself the better mileage will bring you near term financial benefit.

At $4.67/gallon if you got 30 mpg it would cost about $0.155/mile
I don't know what the diesel JT drivers are getting here - the honest answer, but I'll use 30 as a starting point......

At 3.99/gallon for gas, if you got 20 like I was getting with my 2020, it would cost about $0.154/mile
I'm getting a bit over 19mpg with the new 2022 so that's $0.16/mile - but I use U88 which is closer to $2.94/gallon so it's about $0.15/mile for me at 19.2 mpg.

Looks like a wash to me, fuel is about the same per driven mile either way.
