I am picking up a new Gladiator rubicon soon. I don’t plan on doing many performance things, at least not for a while. For now, I want to do smaller things like swap out headlights for LED, get nice floor mats, etc.

The relatively big things I do want sooner than later is a rack for the roof that’s easy to take on/off and an awning to attach to it.

This would NOT be a bed rack, just a rack for the cab. I plan on using the bed for yard stuff the next few months.

How large an awning? I have used a Thule gutter mount but only spanning the back of the top, not the removable panels. I have my 4' arb on one side and shower on the other. My large awning, 8', is on the back bed, not sure I would be comfortable with its weight and possible wind loading on the roof. Be prepared for some scuffs if you take it on and off.

I think I found the Thule's used for $200, they are the areo ones, much quieter than the square or round yakama's

Honestly not sure. I do know I want to get the 270 degree awning at some point. It sounds like maybe that's better for a rack on the bed

Maybe a smaller awning for now would be good. But the rack needs to be easy to take on and off so I can use the safari roof things for the 3 piece hard top from time to time.

Also, I'm super new to all this. Do you have to drill into the hard top?

No drilling depending on the rack
