Toyota coming with FT4X to take on Wrangler?

Toyota has released a teaser of the new FT-4X concept that it is going to debut next month in New York Auto Show. While we only have a look at its rugged wheel, right now we can only speculate that it's a new SUV/ truck concept.

"FT" stands for "Future Toyota" and "4X" basically implies that it has 4-wheel drive. So what could it be? With Ford bringing a new Bronco back and a new Jeep Wrangler coming soon, maybe Toyota may be looking a new more rugged SUV rival.

The FT-4X will debut on April 12.

Based on that shot alone I'm guessing it's just a 'rugged' looking crossover. More Rav4 than FJ Cruiser.

If this is supposed to be FJ successor it'd better not be the same formula as before or it's gonna suffer same fate. It'd have to have solid front axle, removable top, better visibility, and a better aftermarket. And if it ends up being a Wrangler competitor it'll be interesting to see the JL, FT-4X and Bronco all competing in a similar space.

This is supposed to be the "off roady" twin to the Toyota C-HR. But I dunno how it's supposed to have much utility or off road use when it's this small.
