Have definitely seen the shop rag thing once or twice but the brake caliper missing bolts more times than anyone would feel safe having your brakes done elsewhere! 🙄😳

The engine oil dumped all down the side of my engine and onto the front axle and chassis when I made the mistake of letting the dealership change it while the truck was in for some warranty work this last time around is plenty reason to remind me why I normally do all my own maintenance. It boggles the mind to see how inept some of these supposed "mechanics" are.

I do some of my own stuff and have mechanics do other stuff. I generally avoid dealers. Too hard to know what you’re getting - some are good, seasoned mechanics and others a factory trained YouTube parts replacers and up sellers. I prefer a local shop where I can build a relationship and understanding with the mechanic and they understand my history.

I have been wondering about that. My last five vehicles have been either Grand Cherokees or Ram's and I have never had a problem with the dealer changing the oil. However, this is the first vehicle I have had with the oil filter on top and I am concerned with oil dripping down the side of the engine when I get it changed. Not sure what to expect.

If the mechanics working at your dealer can read and properly follow the oil change instructions given in the service manual then a mess can be easily avoided, obviously the ones at mine can't/didn't. The important part to prevent dumping oil everywhere when replacing the filter is you must first unscrew it to where the o-ring is exposed and leave it in place while you then go under to remove the plug and drain the oil from the engine -- leaving the filter unscrewed and in place like this allows the filter to completely drain down through the engine.

I don't go to the local dealer in town here, too many missing parts. It almost seems personal, like somebody has a beef with me. I now drive 60 miles to another dealer and so far no issues, but only for warranty or recall

Unfortunately, not all businesses (or dealerships) operate the same. And I mean... you gotta wonder how some of these businesses stay in business when they consistently screw things up.

Don't even get me started about my 'garage door seals' that a reputable contractor installed 3 months ago that are now starting to come apart. I've called them 4 times over 5 weeks (and sent photos) asking WHEN they're going to fix them?? Same old excuse... We're shorthanded...bla bla bla. Oh.... but wait....they were supposed to show up today.......... NO SHOW!! Whisky Tango Foxtrot..... ?? It's getting harder and harder to keep a cool head....

Reminds me of a book I once read…
