Repair Update:

I turned the car on, wiggled the ABS wires and immediately knew I had the same problem. Once I pulled the tape off of the ABS wires, I found two wires spliced together (green and green white). Both wires broke at the splice as I was removing the tape. I respliced the wires tapped them up and went for a test ride.

Previous repairs over the past year chasing this gremlin: Changed out ABS cable and installed new hub.

I've had the same issue. It comes up when wheeling. Messing with the wire stops it so I've had the same thought. Just haven't had time to fix it.

Mine was bad wires in the same place. About 4" upstream towards the main wiring harness after the ABS connector. As I was removing the tape to inspect, the wires just pulled part in my hand. Spliced them back together and all is good now. Pic of the wire location after repair.

Glad to see you solved the the problem! Looks like the same issue I had. I am pretty sure I caused mine on a particularly tough part of Top of the World in MOAB. Did alot of dragging and then a big rut, then the lights come on. I probably overstretched something!

I have had exactly the same issue for the past 2 years on my '21 JT Rubicon, drivers side wheel speed sensor code that shuts off ABS, cruise, 4x4, etc. It actually happened before the warranty was up but I didn't get to the dealer in time. Code was there 90% of the time, but would disappear once in a while for a few minutes then come back.

I put a new ABS sensor in about 6 months ago and code was gone for a week, but the code came back. Then I put a new hub in and swapped the wheel speed sensors (left and right) about 3 weeks ago at the advice of the dealer and code was gone for 2 days, but then the code came back again and it is still on the drivers side.

In both instances I disconnected the drivers WSS and would have jiggled the vehicle side of the harness, so I am thinking that is my problem as well. I must have hit a parking block too hard at the grocery or changed lanes too fast.

I'm going to pull that tape off and check it out. For my own reference, where is the ABS control module on this truck? I can't find a diagram.

Interestingly, the harness on the vehicle side of my front wheel speed sensor connectors is a pair of wires in a sleeve, no tape wrap.

Is this "ABS connector" that you are referencing different than the wheel speed sensor connector? I feel I'm in the wrong place.

I would prefer to unplug the wiring at the next junction upstream of the wheel speed sensor and just ohm out the wires, but I cannot find the next junction without some disassembly. The drivers wheel speed sensor connects to a harness that joins up with the front differential plug (for the electric diff lock I'm sure) and then the harness disappears below the airbox (diesel). Anyone know where that next junction is?

I have a Mojave 3.6 gasser, no front locker. If you trace the pair of wires from the ABS sensor starting at the wheel hub (passenger front is where mine was) the wire runs up over the ball joint, then around and under to the inside of the frame. There, it has a connector. If you buy a new ABS sensor this is where it plugs in. After that connector, it's still two wires that run back out to the outside of the frame and then up and into a main wiring harness by the passenger side head. This is the section of wiring where mine was broken.

I know the drivers side is slightly different after the ABS connector. On mine it goes up and plugs into a harness on the firewall.

I found my problem by having my buddy start the truck while i got under and started wiggling wires till the ABS light would come on. Eventually I narrowed down where the issue was, and made the repair.

I have a very similar layout, with exception that the harness after the plug runs toward the front of the truck and I’m not sure where to. The wires are not taped right after the WSS plug like some of the photos here, they are sleeved so I would prefer not to cut it and would rather end to end ohm them if I can figure out the other connector location.

I pulled the airbox and figured out that the harness for the diesel left-front wheel speed sensor ties into the front locker and then to a connector under the airbox. I ohmed the wires from the connector to the ABS module connector and had continuity. From the connector down to the WSS I had continuity on one, not on the other. Bingo. I peeled back all of the tape (I was wrong before, it is tape) up to the Y to the locker and didn’t find any issues. I’m concerned that it is a strain internally that I cannot see. The part is $49, so I ordered one and plugged the old harness bag together. I did not install all of the little clips, so its sortof hanging there but installed enough for a few days around town.

Ironically, the code went away and has not come back. I’m still going to install the new harness because this feels like a gremlin, and I want nothing to do with gremlins. It may even have been a hit or miss pin or socket in a connector. Who knows.

By the way, this image shows the pins on the ABS module that are associated with each wheel speed sensor.
