Hi all

I am considering the Quadratec Recon 17x8.5 wheels with 5.2 backspacing (+10 offset) no my soon to be built Sport S non-tow max. I will be putting 285x70x17 tires on them. I don’t want much in any of the tire sticking out of the fender. I have seen one or two picks on here but I can’t really tell how much they are sticking out. Does anyone have a pick from directly above the fender and maybe one from the rear on the side. If they stick out too much I’ll probably just look for some Rubicon takeoffs.

Thanks!

I have 37x12.5x17 BFG tires on those rims. Here is a shot from front, I’ll take one of the back in the am if you want. They really don’t stick out very much. I really like the wheel a lot.

That would be awesome! Would you also be able to take one from directly above the fender down towards the ground, if that makes sense? From this view they look to be pretty much what I’m looking for.

Drivers side rear...

Pics from front, back, and top. Sticks out a little, but not much. Plus, 285/70/17 might be a little less wide of a tire, than my 12.5 width. Hope this helps.

Perfect pics, thanks! Your tires are a little over an inch wider than mine so I’m thinking they will only stick out bit. If you have a side angle of your Jeep I’d love to see how it looks on the Recon’s and 37’s. Thanks again for the assist!

Also living in PA I share your concern about tires sticking out past the fenders since PSP can issue citations for it and it can also prevent from getting your Jeep inspected. I ended up getting some JL Wrangler Rubicon 6BZ40TRMAA rims on ebay for around $120 ea. I bought them separate and saved money since at the time they cheapest set of 4 was $800. I had the 285/70r17 on them and they were under the fenders. Those stock wheels were 17x7.5 with 45 offset so yours would stick out about 0.8" more. I think you'd be ok. I live in a more rural area and see people all the time with tires that stick out much farther and they seem to get a pass but I've heard in the past that it's more strict down in Pittsburgh. I don't have any pics to show you from the top of the fender down, and I have the Kenda Klever 35x10.5x17 tires now and they're a few inches narrower than the 285/70r17. (11.2" wide)

Yeah, I do have the inspection and citation concerns, but more than that I don’t really care for the Tonka truck look and kicked up debris. I might just put the 285’s on the stock wheels for now and call it a day, although I really like the Recons. PJM86’s looks awesome and they are not sticking out to far. If you have any pics from when you had the 285’s on I’d like to see them. Thanks!

Paul, thanks for the pic, looks great!

Cool. I'm sure someone else here has the same size tires and wheels and will chime in, or may be on one of the other threads like Bigger tires on unlifted Sport S.

Saw this on Jeep Gladiator Nation on facebook from someone in Latrobe, PA. These are also Quadratec wheels that are 17x8.5 with 5.2 backspacing and 285/70r17 tires. https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadratec/cj-retro-alloy-wheel-wrangler-jk-jl

It is a 2” mopar lift with teraflex control arms and steersmarts track bar. No rubbing. Love the Jeep.
