Hard To Steer when not moving

Every so often, mostly while off-roading, the steering is difficult where I can’t sit still and turn the wheel, I have to either move forward or backwards. Once and a while this happens when parking. I am running 38” tires with no modifications to steering. Any thoughts?

My dear ol’ dad would yell at me for turning the steering wheel while not rolling at all. That makes for a pure scrub. With 38”, I figure you may be running 13.50 in tire width. That can be a lot of scrub. Back in my youth, that could be an impossible task with manual steering. It would be difficult with common street tires. I had a similar discussion with a friend who often did this and noticed his steering loading up after going to larger tires.

My advice would be to check the power steering fluid level. Higher tire pressure should reduce the scrub but you need to find the sweet spot. Surely someone else has more specific experience with the Gladiator and larger tires In this scenario.

Checked the fluid and it's on min. Putting it back to max today.

If you want to push 38s sitting still then you need a ram assist setup.
No stock hyd power steering setup will enjoy trying to do this. Simple
